Botox

Botulinum Toxin type A is recommended for patients seeking preventative and non-invasive anti-aging solutions to fine lines and wrinkles such as crow’s feet and frown lines. Through a comprehensive consultation process Dr. Mia will tailor the best non-invasive treatment plan for you. Botulinum Toxin Type A is sold under a number of brand names in South Africa such as Botox® and Dysport®.

How does it work?

Botulinum Toxin A, a well-known injectable that is used to temporarily relax certain muscles of the face to restore youthfulness, is commonly used by Dr. Mia in his practice. Through a relatively painless procedure, Botulinum Toxin A is injected underneath the skin in order to minimize and smooth out lines and wrinkles. Botulinum Toxin A has the ability to make a remarkable difference to wrinkles and brow position – leaving you with a fresher and more youthful appearance. Botulinum Toxin A has gained popularity over the years as a less expensive, less invasive (requiring no down time and virtually pain free) and semi-permanent solution to anti-aging as opposed to your more traditional surgical procedures.

Where would we use it?

DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers can be used to create instant anti-aging results in the face and body.

Dermal filler is the most creative way that a medical aesthetician can improve facial proportions, symmetry, lost volume, sharpen the jawline, improve the symmetry of cheekbones, recreate lip structure in the ideal proportions, improve the appearance of dark circles under the eyes and indentations in the temporal bone area.

At Anti-Aging Art we do not use filler to volumise but rather to replace volume that has been lost due to the natural aging process and to build  a scaffolding within the skin’s structure to prevent further aging and loss of collagen.

Dermal filler is an art and must be injected by a medical professional who has had experience and has the knowledge of correct placement and  management

BIOSTIMULANTS

Biostimulators are compounds that are injected into the deep layer of the skin called the dermis. Unlike dermal fillers which simply inject volume, biostimulators work by stimulating new tissue growth, helping the skin to naturally produce its own volume

Both calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHa) and poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) fillers are considered biostimulators and are represented in various brands on the market.

Their effects typically last at least two years, after which follow-up treatments may be required

Most patients who are ideal candidates for Biostimulators are aged 40 years and older, however, this may be a great age-reversing treatment for younger patients who have experienced volume loss in the face. Biostimulants aim to diminish wrinkles, lines, and furrows that can form around the lips, eyes, mouth, neck, cheeks, and lips.

Side effects may include:

Swelling and bruising: It is common to experience some swelling and bruising at the injection site. The majority should subside within a few days but can last up to 2 weeks. Redness and tenderness: The treated area may appear red and tender, which should also improve within a few days

Post treatment

You must massage the treated areas for five minutes, five times a day for five days to reduce any granulomas (small lumps under the skin). Following treatment, you can use cold compresses on the skin to minimize swelling but avoid direct skin contact with ice

CHEMICAL PEELS

Many people are looking for a simple way to improve their skin without surgery, a facelift or injectables. Aging and sun-damaged skin may develop redness, blemishes, facial veins and pigmentation, deep wrinkles, cancerous or precancerous lesions or spotting.

Chemical peels use a chemical solution, usually an acid, to ‘peel’ away the top layers of the epidermis in order to improve conditions such as acne, irregular pigmentation or wrinkles. Chemical peels have been in use for a number of years and are a highly popular way to improve the texture and look of skin.

There are a wide variety of peels available, each with its own unique benefits. It is important to be educated about the use of these peels, and whether they may be right for you. Patients taking Retin-A may be more sensitive and should notify their doctor. Chemical peels may be used in conjunction with other aesthetic treatments

The choice of peel also depends on the downtime and recovery period required by each individual patient

Benefits of Chemical Peels:

  • significantly restore the quality and texture of the patient’s skin and treat problems such as pigmentation, acne and uneven skin tone.
  • stimulate epidermal production to revitalise the skin.
  • allow for better absorption of skincare products by increasing the permeability of the skin.
  • Reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth
  • Treat premature aging caused by sun damage and family history
  • Improve the appearance of scarring
  • Treat acne & blackheads
  • Reduce age spots, freckles and dark patches caused by hormonal changes (pregnancy, birth control pills and menopause)
  • Improve the texture, colour and appearance of the skin
  • Seborrheic Dermatitis
  • Melasma
  • Chloasma
  • Keratosis
  • Ephelides
  • Reduce Stretch marks

MICRONEEDLING

IPL

At Anti-Aging Art we employ YPERION TECHNOLOGY to deliver precise beams of light to the skin.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, aka photo facial, is a way to improve the colour and texture of your skin without surgery. It can undo some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure — called photoaging. You may notice it mostly on your face, neck, hands, or chest.

IPL may help if you have red, brown, or splotchy skin because of a health condition.

How IPL Treatment Works

IPL uses light energy to target a certain colour in your skin.

When the skin is heated, your body gets rid of the unwanted cells, and that gets rid of the thing you’re being treated for. Unlike lasers, an IPL device sends out more than one wavelength of pulsating light. It can treat a range of skin conditions at the same time.

After IPL, you may look younger because your skin tone is more even. And since the light doesn’t hurt other tissue, you can get better quickly.

Who Should Get IPL Treatment?

It works best if you have pale or light brown skin. Talk to us if you want to lessen or get rid of:

PLATELET RICH PLASMA

Platelet-rich plasma PRP is a revolutionary technology, using ingredients of your own blood, which can help regenerate and rejuvenate your skin providing you with age-defying results – suitable for all skin types

Platelet-rich plasma or PRP is the part of the blood that is rich in growth and repairing factors (active proteins) essential for tissue regeneration and healing.

These growth factors mimic the body’s natural wound healing process. During this process collagen, elastin and new blood vessels are increased, and damaged skin repaired and regenerated.

Collagen is what gives skin a youthful appearance but as we age collagen production is reduced causing wrinkles and fine lines. To rejuvenate your skin these growth factors must be injected into your skin to create new collagen for vibrant skin that looks refreshed and glowing

At Anti-Aging Art we use DIAMOND PRP kits to activate your platelets to release 2-5 times more growth factors, giving you the best possible chance at restoration.

HOW IS THE PRP ADMINISTERED

  • The practitioner draws a small volume of blood from the patient’s arm just like in a standard blood test.
  • The blood is placed into a centrifuge and spins the blood at a rapid rate to separate the platelet rich plasma from the other components of the blood.
  • The platelet rich plasma is injected into the area required using a very fine needle.
  • The procedure is performed after local anaesthetic cream that has been applied to minimise any discomfort.
  • The procedure is usually an hour. Patients may have some subtle skin redness after the procedure. Recovery time is less than 24 hours.
  • We recommend no excessive exercise for 24 hours after the procedure.
  • Before your treatment it is important to disclose all medication including herbal medicine with your practitioner. Do not use any anti-inflammatory medication or topical creams for 2-3 days before your treatment. Medication that contains aspirin should be stopped 1 week before treatment. Always speak to your physician first before stopping any medication.
  • We recommend you do not wash your face until the following morning. Your face wash may irritate your skin and it is best to keep the gel applied after the treatment on as long as possible. The serum applied after the procedure assists in the wound healing process and seals the injection sites. You may apply make-up 12 hours after treatment. Stay out of the sun directly after treatment

HOW OFTEN SHOULD DIAMOND PRP BE PERFORMED AND WHEN

TO EXPECT TO SEE RESULTS?

Research and our doctors’ results have shown that the best results are obtained if you have your second treatment 2-3 weeks after your initial treatment.

After the two initial treatments  PRP is performed every four months (three times per year). If Botox and Fillers are part of your anti-aging rejuvenation regime PRP is recommended 1-2 weeks before or after your treatment.

PRP does not provide the immediate plumping short-term effect of neurotoxins and fillers but needs to be included as part of your yearly skin rejuvenation regime as it is the only procedure that can provide you with a more youthful overall glowing and vibrant complexion with a long-term benefit in improving your overall skin health and age defying results.

Body

Lipolytic Injections

The Ceccarelli Fat Lipolysis is a treatment for stubborn fat pockets that do not respond well to dieting or other weight loss methods.

The Ceccarelli solution, containing vitamin C and iron, uses the body’s metabolism by acting on the fat cells, causing natural fat cell destruction. The result is a reduction in those unwanted bulges and is most often used to reduce fat around the  tummy, upper thighs, hips, love handles and saddle bags.

It can be used for excess fat under the chin, i.e. double chin as well as certain under-eye fat pockets.

How Many Treatments are required?

This depends on the amount of fat in the area that needs to be dissolved. Usually 2 to 3 treatments are necessary if there is a moderate amount of resistant fat.

Treatments can be repeated every 2 to 4 weeks. In most cases, one treatment is sufficient but up to 3 treatments can be necessary over a 6 to 8 week period.

Down time: Some swelling and bruising are to be expected for about 3-7 days after the injections.

It’s necessary to keep hydrated to help flush out the toxins and melted fat for a few days afterwards.

Please note: Ceccarelli injections are used for body sculpting and NOT indicated for people who have a large amount of weight to lose, and have global weight loss to tackle. A weight loss program and exercise would be needed to trim down before Ceccarelli injections can be performed.

Mole removal

Moles or melanocytic naevi are dark marks on the skin caused by melanocytes which are the cells in the skin that produce pigment (colour). Moles may vary in colour from the light ‘flesh’ coloured mole through to brown, dark brown and black. Moles can be flat or raised, smooth or rough. Some have hairs growing from them and others are usually round with a regular edge.

The mole removal process is done by excision (surgical removal with or without stitches) by Dr Mia. Skin tags may be easily removed by electrocautery.

Pre-Procedure

You will need to book a consultation with Dr Mia to assess your moles and discuss an appropriate treatment plan. All moles are carefully assessed before removal.

At the initial consultation you will be advised of any medications you may need to discontinue before the procedure. This is to minimize bleeding, bruising and swelling.

Post-Procedure

Follow-up consultations occur

  • For lab results: If Dr Mia or yourself suspected any irregularities with the mole, it will be sent onto the lab for testing. Should the Pathologist find anything unusual or suspicious on your specimen you will be called back to discuss this result and a treatment plan with your Doctor.
  • For stitch removal: Follow-up depends on the area that received stitches and the type of suture that was used. Facial sutures are usually removed on day 5.

To prevent infection during the recovery time, you need to follow Dr Mia’s advice and keep the area clean and covered with daily applications of ointment provided by Dr Mia.

Downtime

You will be able to carry on with your normal daily activities, taking the post-procedural instructions into consideration. Avoid direct exposure of the treated area to the sun until it is completely healed. It is advised to use a high SPF sunblock in the treated area. You will be advised to avoid any activity which may cause tension in the treated area for a period of 7-10 days.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is the most common treatment for both spider veins and varicose veins. Dr Mia uses a needle to inject a liquid chemical into the vein. The chemical causes the vein walls to swell, stick together, and seal shut. This stops the flow of blood, and the vein turns into scar tissue. In a few weeks, the vein should fade. It is a fairly quick painless procedure to achieve blemish free skin. You can return to normal activity right after treatment.

The same vein may need to be treated more than once. Treatments are usually done every 4 to 6 weeks. You may be asked to wear gradient compression stockings after sclerotherapy to help with healing and decrease swelling. This treatment is very effective when done correctly.

VARICOSE  VEINS

Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins near the surface of the skin. They are most common in the legs and ankles. They usually aren’t serious, but they can sometimes lead to other problems.

What causes varicose veins?

Varicose veins are caused by weakened valves and veins in your legs. One-way valves in your veins keep blood flowing from your legs up towards your heart. When these valves do not work as they should, blood collects in your legs, and pressure builds up. The veins become weak, large, and twisted causing a varicose vein.

  • Overweight
  • Family History
  • Aging
  • Pregnancy
  • Standing for long periods of time

What are the symptoms?

Varicose veins look dark blue, swollen, and twisted under the skin. Some people do not have any symptoms others may include mild symptoms such as:

  • Swelling in your feet and ankles
  • Itching over the vein
  • Heaviness, burning, aching, tiredness, or pain in your legs. Symptoms may be worse after you stand or sit for long periods of time

More serious symptoms include:

  • Leg swelling
  • Colour changes in the skin
  • Dry, thinned skin
  • Inflammation
  • Scaling
  • Open sores, or bleeding after a minor injury
  • Swelling and calf pain after you sit or stand for long periods of time

Varicose veins are common and usually aren’t a sign of a serious problem. But in some cases, varicose veins can be a sign of a blockage in deeper veins called deep vein thrombosis.

SPIDER VEINS

Spider veins are closer to the surface of the skin and appear red or blue. They look like spider webs or tree branches with their short, jagged lines. They can be found on the legs and face and can cover either a very small or very large area of skin.

Possible side effects of sclerotherapy  include:

  • Stinging, red and raised patches of skin, or bruising where the injection was made.
  • Spots, brown lines, or groups of fine red blood vessels around the treated vein.
  • Lumps of blood can get confined in the vein and cause inflammation. This is not hazardous. Swelling can be relieved by applying heat and taking an anti-inflammatory. Dr Mia can drain the trapped blood with a small pinprick at a follow-up visit.
  • Sclerosant, injected outside of the vein can damage the surrounding skin. We take all necessary precautions to prevent this.

Orlight Pulse Light laser (IPL) can also be used for fine vessels and flushing.

Hand Rejuvenation

Ways to care for your hands

The skin on the back of your hands is different from the skin in the palm of your hands.

There are no hair follicles in the palm of your hands and the skin is thicker, which makes the skin on the underside more resistant to wear and tear.

The hands are parts of the body that we expose to a lot of wear, for example by washing with soap and doing the dishes. These stresses contribute to skin dryness when the natural fat in the skin barrier is diminished.

There are  scientifically proven and effective treatments using microinjections of stabilized hyaluronic acid (skinboosters) into the skin, especially designed to deliver deep skin hydration and lasting improvements to the overall quality of the skin.

By moisturising the skin from within, it improves the skin’s structure and elasticity.

Results After Hand Treatment with Skinboosters

  • Diminished appearance of veins
  • Improved skin tone and lustre
  • Increased skin elasticity

Moisturizing Creams

A hand cream that replenishes moisture is an essential part of the daily care of the skin. A good hand cream provides a balanced replenishment in combination with maintenance of a healthy, protective skin barrier..

Cosmetic Treatments

There are several cosmetic methods for improving the skin on your hands. For example aha-peeling, laser treatments, and creams with active substances such as vitamin a, which affects pigmentation and collagen formation. Depending on your needs, cosmetic methods can be used in combination with clinical treatments to reach the best results.

Clinical Treatments

Cosmetic beauty products treat the skin from the outside. Clinical treatments do this from the inside, which is exactly what skinboosters do. It improves the skin from within, affecting the outside structure and tone. This is done by using microinjections of stabilized hyaluronic acid. By using skinbooster products, the skin’s hydrobalance is restored and elasticity is increased, which gives a smoother, softer surface with more lustre.

Stretchmarks

Do you have scars, stretch marks, burns, or deep lines and wrinkles that you wish would disappear? Dr. Mia has the answer for you that may include not one but three different treatment options.

Solving Stretchmarks for Men and Women

These unsightly skin imperfections often cause embarrassment and keep far too many people from enjoying swimsuit season. Dr. Mia wants everyone to love the skin their in and uses medical grade chemical peels, dermapen, PRP, Hyalual and Laser to address the problem.

  1. Dermapen

Dermapen is taking the cosmetic industry by storm because of its ability to offer help to a wide spectrum of people with a broad range of scars. Even people with darker skin tones that were resistant to treatment in the past can improve scars and stretch marks with Dermapen micro-needling, also known as “dry tattooing.”

Micro-needling is a wonderful technique for improving the look and feel of tissue that has been scarred by acne or a wound, or stretched by childbirth or weight gain/loss. It can also:

  • Smooth and flatten raised scars
  • Break up fibrous scar tissue
  • Firm the skin of loose scars and stretch marks

How does it work? By making small puncture marks in the upper dermis, micro-needling stimulates collagen and elastin production, smoothes skin and promotes scar and stretch mark reduction through the skin’s natural wound healing process.

  1. Chemical Peels

At Dr. Mia, a TCA chemical peel is applied to the skin. It exfoliates the outer layers of dead skin, revealing a new layer of skin with better texture, tone, and colour. It makes the skin peel the same way as a sun burn. The skin rejuvenates and tenses again progressively, the skin tone becomes more uniform, and scarring can be dramatically improved.

  1. Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are another popular cosmetic enhancement treatment with Dr. Mia’s patients. Most often requested for facial rejuvenation, dermal fillers can offer an effective treatment for scar and stretch mark relief.

Dermal Fillers are injected into the depressed tissue of the scar. Fillers plump up the hollow underneath the scar tissue, bringing it up to the level of the adjacent skin. This provides a more even, natural-looking contour to formerly misshapen skin.

  • PRP

Autologous growth factors  are used to stimulate collagen and elastin to improve the torn skin and the appearance of the stretchmarks

  • Redermalization

Injection of hyaluronic acid and succinic acid stimulates collagen and elastin production to improve the overall health of the skins tissue and improve the appearance of stretchmarks.

  1. Skinboosters

The injection of hyaluronic acid in various products provides hydration to the skin and healing of the damaged collagen fibres within the dermis to improve the appearance of stretchmarks.

Dr. Mia will advise upon consultation which treatment plan would be the best for you depending on the severity of the stretchmarks.

PRP

RESTORE HAIR LOSS FOR MEN AND WOMEN

Suitable for all hair types Androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness is a very common type of hair loss observed in both males and females.

With a thin needle, your own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is injected into the scalp.

Activated PRP releases active growth factors to naturally stimulate hair growth.

It is theorised that growth factors released from platelets may act on stem cells in the bulge area of the follicles, stimulating the development of new follicles and promoting new blood vessel development to provide the hair with the nutrients and oxygen needed.

PRP Hair Restoration is suitable for both men and women. It is a state of the art, non-surgical, totally natural, medical procedure that may be combined with hair treatment medication used for the treatment of hair loss or hair thinning. Helping to restore one’s confidence, the end result is a fuller, healthier looking head of hair.

Hair filler

We often talk about Hair filler as being hair ‘fertiliser’. This is because  hair Filler is a specialised peptide complex  together with hyaluronic acid which is injected into dermis layer at the site of the damaged scalp.

Hair filler is used to treat hair problems such as hair fall and thinness

Hair Filler contains 7 patented peptides. Every peptide has shown its efficacy in the hair regrowth and loss process by different in-vitro tests performed.

Hair fillers stimulate healthy hair growth and prevent hair loss due to the stimulating effect of the filler. On average, you will need about four sessions to obtain optimal results.

Hair filler may be used in combination with platelet rich plasma, external growth factors and other treatments we use to improve the health of your scalp.
