Physiotherapy Treatments
Dry needling
An effective treatment technique for pain, muscle spasm, headaches and trigger point release.
Dry Needling is the insertion of sterile needles into various trigger points to assist in improving circulation, reducing pain and restoring function of the soft tissue.
It is rarely a stand-alone procedure, but rather incorporated into treatments where other treatment techniques are being used.
This method is safely performed by our trained and experienced physiotherapists and can be included in various treatment programmes.
Hands on healing
Our Physiotherapists are trained to assess and help heal through touch.
Soft Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release and Deep Tissue mobilisation are all techniques incorporated into our treatments.
Graded joint mobilisations as well as various other mobilising techniques such as Mckenzie extension exercises, Mulligan Concepts and Muscle Activation Techniques may also be incorporated into treatments.
All patients are assessed carefully and will be managed strategically.
Headaches and neck pain
Soft Tissue Massage, Myofascial release, Trigger Point release and joint mobilisations are all part of the treatment strategy we adopt in managing patients suffering from headaches and spinal pain.
There are many different types of headaches, however tension or cervicogenic headaches are most successfully treated with physiotherapy.
Any of the following symptoms may indicate that you are suffering from cervicogenic headaches: Pain at the base of your skull Side-locked headache with one- sided neck, shoulder or arm pain Headache associated with certain neck postures or movements. Restricted Range of motion in the neck Prolonged history of headaches with exacerbations and remissions
Cervicogenic headaches arise from dysfunction in the cervical musculoskeletal system leading to referral pain in the head.
Assessment is key to treating and managing this condition effectively.
Sports injuries and post operative rehabilitation
Our Physiotherapists are trained to assist in the rehabilitation of:
- Acute, overuse, or repetitive strain injuries
- tennis elbow
- sprained ankles
- patellar tendonitis
- hip bursitis
- chronic back pain
- neck pain
- pinched nerves (radicular pain)
- fractures and traumatic injuries
- hip replacements
- knee replacements
- meniscal repairs
- ACL/PCL repairs
- Muscle tears
- Neuralgias (Bell’s Palsy)
Detailed assessments are performed on all our patients and treatment strategies tailored to their specific needs.
Aesthetic rehabilitation
The Physiotherapists at Anti-Aging Art provide aesthetic rehabilitation to patients after certain procedures.
- Deep Oscillation for Cooltech fat freezing
A 15 minute deep oscillation is offered after the cooltech fat freezing procedure in order to help the tissue to adjust to room temperature and minimise bruising pain and discomfort.
- Ultrasound and myofascial release post Lipolytic Injections
Gentle soft tissue release and ultrasound is also offered to patients who are suffering with swelling and bruising post lipolytic injections. This helps to improve lymph drainage and stimulate faster healing.
- Neuromuscular Stimpod Botulinum toxin
It is not often but it does happen that patients are unhappy with the effect of botulinum toxin injections in certain areas of the face.
The neuromuscular stimpod can be applied to the nerves and muscles of the face in a 30 minute treatment to help the toxin wear off as fast as possible. Multiple sessions may be required.
Taping
Taping is an effective technique to enhance the outcomes of treatments or support patients through their healing journey.
Taping can be used for many outcomes including support, control of movement, stimulation of proprioception, postural awareness or lymph drainage.
We utilise many taping techniques including Spidertech precision tape, Kinesiotape, Rock tape as well as more rigid taping methods.
Electrotherapy
There are many forms of electrotherapy which can be used in treatment to stimulate muscle, retrain movement patterns, or reduce swelling and inflammation.
We have a full complement of electrotherapy equipment, and some electrotherapy may be included in your treatments if applicable.
- NMS Stimpod (Bell’s Palsy)
- Ultrasound
- Extra Corporeal Shockwave Therapy
- Interferential Current
- Deep Oscillation
- TENS
- Hypervolt
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
The Pelvic floor is a bundle of hammock like muscles that lie at the base of your pelvis. Their function is to support the internal pelvic organs and assist in normal bladder, bowel and sexual functioning. It plays a very important role in core stability and works together with the deep core stabilisers, lower back stabilisers and the diaphragm. So, when you experience symptoms relating to the pelvic floor you may experience the following:
Pelvic floor weakness
- Incontinence (leaking urine or faecal matter), Stress incontinence, Urge incontinence, Frequent Urination
- Menopause related pelvic floor weakness (Vaginal atrophy)
- Postpartum pelvic floor weakness
- Post-operative loss of control
- Pelvic floor dysfunction
- Constipation, Incontinence, Lower back pain, Sciatica
- Pelvic pain
- Pelvic girdle pain (Coccyx, pubic symphysis, SIJ, pelvic region, gluteals, hips, lower back)
- Pain during sex (Dyspareunia),
- Vulvodynia (Vulvar pain),
- Vaginismus
- Pain with inserting a tampon
- Episiotomy or Perennial scar related pain,
- Pregnancy related pain (Coccyx, Pubic symphysis, SIJ, Lumbar)
- Pelvic Organ Prolapse – Descent or protrusion of Pelvic organs (Cystocele – Bladder, Urethrocele – Urethra, Rectocele – Rectum, Uterocele – Uterus, Rectal prolapse)
- Rectus Diastasis (abdominal separation)
- Back pain
- Surgical – Caesarean section scar adhesion, Abdominal surgery scarring
Pre- and postnatal physiotherapy
Pregnancy is the most incredible and life changing experience, but it can take a toll on your body as it starts to change and transform to accommodate for your growing baby.
As your baby grows, your posture, and hormones change. As your baby gets heavier the pressure on the pelvic floor increases and can lead to changes in bladder, bowel and sexual function.
With all these changes it is common to experience a variety of pains, and changes in your body such as:
- Pelvic girdle/ Hip/ Groin/ Pubic pain
- Lower back/ Sacroiliac joint (SIJ) pain/ Sciatica
- Thoracic/ Rib pain
- Pelvic floor weakness and Urinary incontinence
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
After birth whether vaginal or caesarean there will be a change in your pelvic floor muscles. Common problems experienced postnatally include:
- Stress and Urge incontinence
- Pelvic and Lower back pain
- Upper back and Neck pain
- Diastasis Recti (Abdominal separation)
- Breastfeeding complications (blocked milk ducts, mastitis)
Your Postnatal assessment will include:
- Internal pelvic floor assessment
- Pelvis, SIJ and Lumbar spine assessment
- Diastasis recti (abdominal separation) assessment
- Return to sport assessment
- Scar assessment
Respiratory therapy
Physiotherapists are able to treat a wide range of respiratory conditions including
- sinusitis
- bronchitis
- pneumonia A
- post Covid pneumonia
- asthma and
- other chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.
Will utilise a wide range of tools including breathing exercises, manual percussion, vibration, steaming with essential oils, nebulising, ultrasound, and active movement to achieve clear lungs and easier breathing patterns.
